Add and customize an image

BlueDolphin allows adding images, such as icons and logos, to Architecture and Logical Data views using the drag-and-drop function.

To add images, you must first be assigned edit rights for the specific view. If multiple users are collaborating on a shared view, any image added by one user will be visible to all others working on the view.

When you drag and drop an image, it appears at the top-middle of the view. Once added, you can manipulate the image by moving, rotating, resizing, deleting, or copying and pasting it between views.

Right-clicking on an image provides the following options:

Delete an image

To delete an image, click the Delete button or the small trashcan next to it. Deleting an image from a view only deletes it from that view. If the same image is used on other views, it doesn't get deleted from those views.

Layer an image

Layering works the same way as for free shapes, with the following options available from the dropdown menu:

  • Bring to front - Bring all the way to the front.

  • Send to back - Bend all the way to the bottom.

  • Bring forward - Move it one step up.

  • Send backward - Move it one step down.

Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts are the same as those for free shapes:

Description

Windows shortcut

macOS shortcut

Copy an image

CTRL + C

Cmd + C

Paste an image

CTRL + V

Cmd + V

Undo step

CTRL + Z

Cmd + Z

Supported file formats

Supported file formats for images include: JPG, JPEG, PNG, SVG and ICO.

This community post explains how to set the width and height of an SVG file.

If, however, you add an SVG file without width and height in its element, the file size will be automatically set to 120px by 120px and the file will be rendered in BlueDolphin.

Rules and limitations

There is no limitation on the number of images you can add to a view. However, drag and drop of multiple images at the same time is currently not supported.

The maximum file size that is allowed per image is 1MB. Please note that resizing works the same way as for free shapes. Resizing by using the anchor points will distort the aspect ratio, while holding the Shift key will maintain the aspect ratio.

Images will be included in the preview of a view.

Any action involving images won't be logged in history, such as adding, deleting or resizing. Further, images will not be included in historical previews of views.

All the supported image file formats will be included in the PNG, SVG and PDF download of a view.

Images are not included in the import and export of AMEFF and BlueDolphin AMEFF files.

The following actions are not supported when working with views:

  • Linking between images and objects

  • Coloring of images

  • Grouping of images

  • Adding free text to images

In future releases, we plan to offer some of the functionalities that are not offered currently.
