Usability and Functionality Enhancements to User Management

I have reviewed this existing wish (https://support.valueblue.nl/hc/nl/community/posts/4465729878418-Wish-Admin-User-Role-Management-improvements?input_string=Enhancements%20to%20User%20Management) and have additional wishes for user management.

  • What is your wish?

Multiple enhancements to make user admin easier.

  1. Today because the whole window scrolls together, clicking on a user further down the list requires me to scroll back up to make changes. Instead, scroll the user list independently rather than scroll the whole window. so that you can position a user in parallel with the user properties screen. This is basic web app design.
  2. Search the user list
  3. Group by role
  4. Sort by last name or first name
  5. Make bulk changes (delete, add or remove from role, send new invitation)
  6. Import users from an Excel or CSV
  7. Export names and email addresses
  • What is the problem you encountered?

We recently had to re-send emails to all of our users. This required:

  1. Select each user
  2. Once we got past the G's, scroll back to the top
  3. Click the re-send button
  4. Scroll down and select the next user

This is a cumbersome and inefficient process. If we had to change role membership for a number of users it would be even worse.

  • Why do you want this wish?

We have over 100 users, and will soon have potentially thousands. At these counts the user management UI is unworkable. Finding users is difficult, they cannot be grouped, users have to be added individually, there is no bulk change facility, and I have to scroll constantly. 

  • Do you have a workaround?

Yes, doing things as they are now… but it's quite inefficient.

  1. How big a problem is this (1-5)?

As our user community grows that number grows. Today it's a 3, but when we get over 200 users it's going to get worse.

    Yes, we want this as well please!

    Especially the not having to “scroll back to the top” would be a neat little improvement. The way it works now is not intuitive and shouldn't be too hard to implement.

    Additionally, I recently realized that the user list is not reliably alphabetical. Note that the Johns in the screen shot below are not in alpha order by last name.

    …and now we have over 6,500 users. This means the size of this problem is now a 5… plus 5…

    Hi all (Nolen, Keith C, MG || Gemeente Tilburg , Roeland Loggen ), 

    We've just released a fix for this: Add user search to Admin - Users section – BlueDolphin.

    This takes care of part of the original question:

    2. Search the user list

     

    Additional improvements on

    • Group by role
    • Sort by last name or first name
    • Make bulk changes (delete, add or remove from role, send new invitation)
    • Export names and email addresses

    are part of the roles and permissions overhaul initiative we have. Bulk importing users can now already be done through either SCIM or the Public API.
