Orca - Processes - Change owner of a diagram (February 19th 2025)
A new release for ‘Processes’ is out.
This release brings the functionality to change owner of a diagram!
Use cases
You may want to change the owner, for example, when the business process gets a different owner or the current owner gets a different role or leaves your organization.
What does change of ownership imply?
When you change the owner of a diagram, the new owner gets edit rights to that diagram and can nurture it to its future evolution. At this point, it is no different than any other diagram that the new owner may have created for themselves.
How does this feature work?
Use the ‘Change owner’ option from the 3-dot menu on a diagram to start the flow:
Select the user you want to take over the ownership and click ‘Change’:
That's it! You have now changed the owner of the diagram. The owner is also shown under ‘Owned by’ label on the side panel of the diagram.
Where is this option available?
The ‘Change owner’ option is available under the 3-dot menu on a diagram and on the ‘Diagrams’ list (including on the process detail page).
Who can change the owner of a diagram?
If you are the owner of a diagram, you can change its ownership. Following this, you are not able to edit the diagram. It can only be edited by the new owner.
Users with the standard ‘Process administrators’ or ‘Administrators’ role can change the owner of any diagram.
Whom you can make the new owner of a diagram?
You can transfer a diagram to a user who has the standard ‘Process modelers’ or ‘Process administrators’ or ‘Administrators’ role.
The user list will only show you the users who are in these roles. The existing owner of a diagram will be filtered out because it is not logical to transfer the diagram to that user.
Further, a diagram only has one owner at any given time and it follows that you can only transfer the diagram to one other user.
We hope that this feature brings more efficiencies to the way of working.

Hello Mark Hensbergen,
Thank you for the feedback!

This is great!
Now waiting for the feature when we can have multiple editors for a process :).

I am pleased with this release overall.
However, I don't understand why support for multiple editors is not included. This is especially inconvenient as an administrator has to change the owner frequently, which is very inefficient.

Hi tom,
Thanks for your message! I completely agree with your feedback. The reason multiple editors hasn’t been implemented yet is because it requires some additional development effort, and we chose to prioritize other features first.
That said, we’re planning to enhance the entire ‘sharing’ experience in BlueDolphin — not just for Processes, but also for ArchiMate views, ERD views, Projects, and Business Units.
We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have more clarity on a potential release date.
