Thank you Fleur for submitting this wish. It is always good to get good ideas for improving BlueDolphin.
We will discuss this internally and inform you.
I am also curious what others think of this wish.

Isn't this something you should set in your CMDB (configuration management database) where you keep all your data on applications within an organisation (like version, supplier, contract, application manager, etc.)? Or would you rather configure your CMDB in BlueDolphin?

MG || Gemeente Tilburg Great question. Fleur van Bladel submitted the request on my behalf. My organization does not have a CMDB. Our intent is to use BlueDolphin to handle many of the functions found in CMDB.

Maybe this could be something that we could generally add to date fields; set notifications on certain intervals close to the date filled in on a date field.

Russell Rogers Could you show me a conceptual example of how your organisation does that? It might be beneficial to integrate our CMDB in BlueDolphin as well, as we now have two registrations of virtually the same thing (although both also have some functionality which the other doesn't).

I agree with Jelle, for me this seems a broad functionality to add a notification based on a specific value and date. This way it can be used along the total BD platform. But to give this wish more body: who will get the notification? And how do you like to configure this?

For example: if it is one date field for the Application Objects, who will get the notification? Where do you configure this?

It would make more sense if you can set responsibility on objects first (by user) and give the responsible user the notification (within BD, mail, teams, whatever).

The notification would be received by the applications' business owner (product manager) and IT product owner that are listed in the General Application tab of each application.

The notification could be used at the technology layer to notify the IT product owner and infrastructure and operations manager that a server's lease or warranty is about to expire.

Ok, so we need a field for the Owners (which most of us are using already). Then we need a field with the date (also is place within a lot of BD environments.

Then the wish/user story is: as a BlueDolphin Administrator i would like to create a workflow to trigger an expiration date (object field) to notify the Owner (object field) and sent the Owner an alert (inside BD and a email or teams message).

BD isn't a Workflow platform, so BD has to decide what they want/can do with this wish. As a workaround, it might be possible to report the fields (owner & object) to Power BI and then built a Flow within Microsoft Power Platform or a Logic App or something.

Can someone from BD let us know if BD is wiling to create this kind of workflow functionality? If not, we can investigate what is possible with reporting and the Odata feed. thanks!

    Hi All,

Thanks for your input! I am going to discuss this wish with the product owner.

When I have more information I will inform you.

You can accomplish this already. Not inside BlueDolphin, but with our Odata feed --> endless possibilities really, through powershell, logic apps, Azure functions, BI dashboard (e.g. powerBI, Tableau, QLikview), AWS lamda function, etc

Back to the original question. The biggest challenge would be to find a source to know which application are going to be EoL and matching it to applications in BlueDolphin, else it still will be a manual job (setting a flag or date in bluedolphin when it will be EoL and report on this).

If there is such a source, i might give it a try and create something generic for all to use.

Rob Korving when users have created an Owner field and a Date field, then i agree we can work something out with the Odata feed. We have to register the EoL in a field, that is a prereq. Wheiter this is filled automatically from a source is another question in my opinion.

Although in the future a custom internet query/lookup to the software supplier would be very nice, but i think versioning and EoL should be worked out in different kinds of software, like software metering, licensing, etc.

So let's start with a Owner Field and a EoL Field, that reporting part is easy, but alerting needs more work.

We have discussed this wish with our product owner and we have placed it on the wishlist.
