Hi Chantal Kools and everyone in this thread,

We are planning to release our public API in Q2, which will hopefully answer your questions and improve the platform's functionality for you.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns until that time.

hear hear, we are looking for the same functionality

You may be interested by an article I just posted in "General", called "BlueDolphin ODATA API with Python and Pandas". It shows that you can retrieve data from the BlueDolphin repository through the BlueDolphin ODATA API. This is an industry-standard way of exposing data, so a lot of software, including Power BI, Excel, R and Pandas can connect to BlueDolphin in that way.

I think that at least covers getting data out of BlueDolphin for most cases. Note that my article goes beyond the details of accessing the ODATA API and contains a significant portion of Python programming. Most reporting tools just need the URL as a data source and credentials, and will not require extensive programming.

Thank you Martijn for your response. We already use the odata api, mainly for importing data into PowerBI, that works okay. But sadly not all data needed is part of that api. The main problem is importing data to BlueDolphin, for instance from CMDB's, network, HR-systems etc. The current way of doing that is to fragile, so we do everything by hand, which costs many many manhours.

Hi Chantal, this doesn't sound optimal to me indeed.

The implementation of an official API for bringing data into BlueDolphin is definitely something on our roadmap, however, I can't provide a delivery time-frame yet.

I imagine that said API would e.g. offer a generic and standardized way to create, read, update and remove BlueDolphin objects and their relationships in near real-time. This provides you as a customer with the freedom to build custom integrations between your company's applications and BlueDolphin. Potentially, these integrations are technically more involved to create and maintain, and when done in-house, requires specific skills and tools. Is this something that aligns with your expectations?

This is functionality that would be good for us as well. We have the need for API's for creating, reading, updating and deleting users and user/role relationships. Good user maintenance for a large group is more maintenance than we wish to handle.

It'll be added to my monthly feedback meeting!  When discussed I will give you an update.

Hi Kim van Rooijen, do you have any news after your monthly feedback meeting?

    Hello all,

Sorry for such a delay with our response. We are currently developing an API to remove the data collector tool.

Once that is released, we will be creating an open API. We will let you know as soon as there is an update.

Hi @..., thank you for the official response. Will the open api include adding/removing users/roles?

Hi Kenny Kok, we plan to release public APi for user provisioning (crud of users and their role assignments).
This would mean you no longer need to manage users and role assignments manually.

In addition, we plan to release public API for data import and export.
This would mean you no longer need the DataCollector to 'upload' files for source processing.
(The DataCollector will still be supported)

    At Kenny Kok

Just to be sure: Last year, we released the Automatic User Provisioning API using SCIM. That can be used to manage the user and role assignments.
Here's a link to the full feature explanation:

Let us know if you have any further questions about this.
