Object viewer sliding over the view instead of pushing it a side.

When building on a view, I regularly need to add meta data to an object.
The object viewer is convenient for this at the point where it pushes away the view.
Once done filling in some meta data and returning my focus back to the view and having closed the object viewer pane with the > button, I sometimes get lost; where was I at? Where is that object I was about to connect to another object?
Happy flow gone. Annoying.
It would be nice if the object viewer would slide over the view or when being closed pulling the view back to where it was before.

I have discussed this wish with the product owner and I am going to add this one to our wishlist. It will be a part of a big UX improvement, so I cannot give any time details.
