[wish] relate BPMN intermediate events: connect throw to catch
VoltooidThere are processes that 'throw' events to start other processes that 'catch' that event. In my mind multiple processes can throw, but only one process can catch an event. In other words, there is a relation between throw and catch events.
Wish
I want to be able to connect throw events to the specific catch event, so that users have the opportunity to navigate over this relation between related processes.
Why
The possibility to navigate between processes directly in BPMN will give a better insight into processes. The need to switching to ArchiMate for oversight and back again to BPMN for insight is a way of working that won’t attract a bigger audience for our models.
Also for design it would be helpful to identify throw events that never will be catched or catch event that will never be used.
Workaround
My current workaround is that in ArchiMate two processes are related by a trigger-relation indicating that there might be a throw-catch used. [additionally it would be nice to generate this trigger-relation when a throw-catch connects two processes…]
Next to that I created a questionnaire for throw-events to indicate the (ArchiMate)process where a catch is done [not yet sure if this will help users in navigation…]
Possible Solution
Create the possibility to connect a throw-event to a catch-event in the same but especially in another BPMN-process by a standard dropdown on ‘throw-events’.

Hi Roland Kaijen,
BPMN intermediate events in the same diagram are possible in the Alpha version of the new BPMN that is currently being tested by a selected group of customers.
Thank you,
