Data objects states to be visible on BPMN lines and data model
GeplandWhen modelling a process in BPMN/Swimlanes I would like to have an ability to display a data object state. I used BPMN to demonstrate how the individual process steps alter the ticket in a system as that gives me the chance to show who is supposed to make an action and what that action is.
For instances when an order is created it is in the New state, later when it's assigned to somebody, it's going to In Progress. So if the order is modelled as the data object, then it state for this data object changes along.
Additionally being able to name individual Data Object states it would be possible to compare the process ways of altering the states with a state machine for a given object and see if there is anything missing either in the process or in the state machine.

Nice. BPMN compliant.

This is an interesting wish. Thank you for sharing.
Just curious, is state an editable property on a data object in this use case?

Hello Ameya Sapre
As far as I can tell it is a reference to a collection as objects can usually have different states.

A data object can have a reference to a business object from ArchiMate and that business object can change state as the process is executed. Is this what you mean? If so, where/how do you maintain the state on the referenced business object?

Hi Ameya Sapre
I used to use the states of the data objects when drawing the BPMN flows to display how the object state changes when going thru different steps. Thus I don't necessary imply that it is the business object that has to be added to the BPMN flow to display.
I looked at the OMG BPMN SPEC and I found the following:
https://www.omg.org/spec/BPMN/2.0/PDF the definition is on the page 205 and 206.
Let me know if that helps to understand if the above references are anyhow helpful.
